US brand focus - How I shop Make Up Geek in the UK

How to shop Make Up Geek in the UK and my MUG collection

Let me start by saying that I love Make Up Geek as a brand! Their customer care is top notch and they offer great quality products at affordable prices. Make Up Geek are best known for their single pan eye shadows that allow you to create your own custom palettes, however, they also sell contour and blush pans, eyeliners, loose pigments and glitters, and brushes - although I'm yet to try any of these. If you watch YouTube or follow beauty accounts on Instagram you will have no doubt seen how popular the brand is, their shadows are constantly compared to MAC shadows but cost just a fraction of the price. So, if you would like to know how to buy Make Up Geek in the UK please keep reading ...

Make Up Geek does have a UK stockist (YAAAY). A lot of their products are available on Beauty Bay - this is where I purchased all of my single pan eye shadows (I actually managed to get a few during their notorious BOGOF Make Up Geek offer that crashed their site and sold out almost instantly). The single shadows retail for £4.95, Duochrome shadows are also £4.95 and the foiled shadows are £7.95 - a steal when compared to other brands single shadow prices.
As I mentioned above, the quality of these eye shadows are unreal. They are so pigmented, creamy and blendable. Some do have a lot of fallout when applying the shadow to your brush but you get that with every brand (obviously) as you are turning the product from a pressed to loose powder. I own shadows from a lot of brands (Mac, Urban Decay, Anastasia Beverly Hills etc) and find that the MUG shadows perform just as well or, in some cases, better than the high end brands. Another thing I love about MUG eye shadows is that they are all cruelty free.

Single Shadows

I have thirteen of their single pan eye shadows, including three of the Duochrome's. I mostly have colours that I've seen time and time again on YouTube (Americano, Cocoa Bear, Corrupt, Shimma Shimma etc) and a few that I'd not heard of but looked nice on the Beauty Bay website. I keep all of my MUG shadows in a large Z palette, also from Beauty Bay. For those of you not familiar with Z palettes they are magnetic so hold the shadows by magnitising to the pan.

From left to right I have -
  • Beaches and Cream - Creamy Matte Natural Beige with Just A Hint of Peach
  • Shimma Shimma - Metallic Champagne
  • Mai Tai - Mai Tai has an apricot base with orchid reflects
  • Frappe - Medium maple brown matte
  • Corrupt - Intense matte black with a very subtle sparkle

  • Voltage - Voltage has a vanilla base with champagne-yellow reflects
  • Blacklight - Blacklight has an electric purple base with icy blue reflects
  • Unexpected - Matte Pale Pink Brown
  • Bitten - Matte deep maroon red

  • Dirty Martini - Matte olive green
  • Roulette - Roulette is a rosy, burnt sienna with a silky, shimmery finish
  • Cocoa Bear - Matte reddish brown
  • Americano - Americano is a dark brown with subtle purple undertones and a matte finish.

Manny Mua Palette

I ordered the Manny Mua palette directly from the MUG website. Beauty Bay did have limited quantities but I missed it and was absolutely gutted as it looked so beautiful. So when he posted that it was back in stock on the MUG website I just had to have it. It retails at $45 (approximately £34 at todays exchange rate of 1.3) and shipping was $9.99. It probably took around 20 days to get to me, arrived in perfect condition and was delivered by Royal Mail with no customs charges. There was a faster option but the price was a lot higher.

The palette is made up of nine shadows, three perminant MUG shades and six that Manny created with them for this palette. The palette contains a mixture of matte, shimmer, duochrome and foiled shadows that are all warm toned. From left to right the shades are;

  • Artemis - Artemis is a muted champagne yellow with a shimmery finish
  • Beaches and Cream - a soft peachy beige with a matte finish
  • Luna - Luna is a medium rose gold with a foiled finish
  • Cosmopolitan - Cosmopolitan is a gold-flecked medium rose with a shimmery finish
  • Sora - Sora is a medium earthy terracotta with a matte finish (with subtle specs of glitter on the surface)
  • Frappe - Frappe is a medium maple brown with a matte finish
  • Insomnia - Insomnia is a warm red brown with blue reflects and a foiled finish
  • Mars - Mars is a deep cherry red with a matte finish
  • Aphrodite - Aphrodite is a deep plum brown with a matte finish
The palette is so versatile it has everything you need for both natural and full glam looks. This makes it the perfect palette to travel with. Although the palette is limited edition it is currently available on the MUG website.

Have you tried MUG? What shades would you recommend I add to my collection?

Thank you so much for reading
