Why I don't love Tarte Shape Tape

Worth the hype - Tarte Shape Tape

Tarte Shape Tape

Tarte Shape Tape is probably the most hyped concealer in the world right now. It seems like you can't scroll through YouTube or Twitter without seeing somebody else declaring their love for it. Tarte claims to sell a Shape Tape every 26 seconds!! So obviously I had to try it myself BUT was it worth the hype ...

This concealer isn't the easiest thing in the world to get hold of if you live in the UK. You can either part with £28 to get it from QVC (in a set with the Tarte blending sponge that nobody actually wants) or order directly from the Tarte website and pay £13.21 international shipping fees and risk a dreaded customs charge.

I had been um'ing and ah'ing over it for months and then the absolute babes that are Tarte had a free international shipping weekend and I took it as a sign from the gods and ordered.

Obviously buying it online meant that I had to guess my shade from swatches on Instagram/YouTube. The colour selection is great; from pale to deep their is a shade for everybody. I opted for the shade 'fair neutral' and headed to the checkout where I was asked if I'd like to try a mini Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara for 19p, naturally I couldn't resist. My grand total was just over £23, which is still pretty pricey for a concealer.

A week or so later she was here and made it through without a customs charge - GET IN! I opened my little white white box, peeled back the unicorn tissue paper and ripped her open ...

The first thing I noticed was the sheer size of it, its absolutely huge. The second thing was the smell, I can't get enough of that smell, if Tarte decided to venture into the world of fragrance this smell should definitely be their first.

So as you can imagine, I'm sitting there thinking 'yes, everything they've said about you is true, you are my new holy grail concealer' and then I tried it (insert the broken heart and devastated face emoji here).

Agh, all those hopes and dreams faded away before my cakey concealed eyes. It literally takes me about 20 minutes to blend this concealer out and even then I feel like it I can still see it sitting there. I've tried using a lot of product, I've tried using very little product. I've tried blending it out with a beauty blender, a brush, my finger. I've tried mixing it with facial oil and other concealers and I've not been 100% happy with any of the results.

It breaks my heart to say this but for me Tarte Shape Tape is NOT worth the hype!! Maybe I just picked a shade that is too fair for me but as it currently stands I would not repurchase it.

Now the Lights, Camera, Lashes on the other hand I absolutely LOVE!! I've used it every single day since I got it and only now is it running out. I will definitely be picking up a full size when I'm in America in October.

Am I the only mad man on the internet that doesn't love this concealer?

  1. I have never tried this concealer or any products of the brand for that matter. But I have seen them all over social media and heard everybody saying they love the brand and also this concealer. It won't be a product i'll try then xx corinne

  2. Its always interesting to hear what other people think of brands products. I personally use Benefit High Beam or Pearl Meets Girl. Maybe you should try them?

  4. Oh no, so sad to hear it didn't work for you!
I personally, love love love this concealer. It stays on forever and it never creases on me. I set it with my RCMA no colour powder, maybe that helps to keep the concealer looking flawless!

  5. Such a shame this didn't work for you; I'm always worried about creasing and settling in my fine lines but I really like it - and it does wonders concealing my dark circles.
